The specialist emphasised that parvovirus is easily transmitted between dogs, as only a small amount of contact is needed to infect them. At the same time, infected animals can transmit the virus for several days before symptoms appear, unconsciously exposing other animals to the disease. The virus has good resistance to heat and cleaning agents, so it can remain in the environment for a long time.
Puppies, the doctor noted, are at risk because their immune systems are not yet fully developed, so their owners should keep their pets away from other dogs until all necessary vaccines have been administered.
