Does that annoy an actress from the practical effects world?
Not particularly, because I’ve gone through many stages of development. Once it was “blue screen.” Then it was “green screen.” They’re probably going back to “blue screen” now. If you keep your favourite shoe, it will be back in fashion in 20 years. It’s very interesting to look at and absorb. I was head over heels in reading the set schedule for Very Strange Things. I’ve never seen such a detailed schedule before and I’m saying to myself, “I have no idea what this means. What is 501 item B, part two?” They sent me the text, but I still don’t understand it. I need a separate person to explain to me what the new world is like on set.
We’re in brand new territory discussing artificial intelligence and its impact on the industry, and we were curious to hear your opinion on it based on what you know about the “Terminator” universe
I can really only say one thing. All operating systems will always have updates and we have to push that button and just keep pushing it or our hardware won’t work at all. And I love learning. As far as artificial intelligence, we’ll just see what comes out of that. I can’t imagine it ever writing what humans are writing now. I just can’t imagine that. But it’s not just the directors, the craftsmanship and the tools that are changing, it’s the whole approach in general. It’s much more corporate now. Corporations run the studios, and there may have been something missed by them. There seems to have been a lot of redundancy between creative tasks. On the other hand, now with the new tools for TV writing and filming much better than in my heyday, there is so much smart, wonderful and fresh material available now, and I’m happy to see someone creating great shows.
